Jacob Jan van der Maaten

(1820 - 1879)

Jacob Jan van der Maaten was a pupil of Hendrick van den Sande Bakhuyzen (1795-1860) and later he studied at the Amsterdam Academy. He worked in The Hague from 1843-1852, in Amsterdam from 1854-1855 and then again in The Hague between 1857 and 1864, before settling in Apeldoorn where he taught at the Kings School.

He was primarily a landscape painter and engraved and lithographed his own works.

His works can be found in museums in: Groningen, Gemeentemuseum; Otterlo, Rijksmuseum Kroller-Muller and Rotterdam, Museum Boymans van Beuningen.
