Provenance: Private Collection, The Netherlands Artist Biography: Hendrik van de Sande Bakhuyzen worked as a pupil under Johan Heijmans and Wilhelm Krausz (b.1878). Together they travelled throughout Holland, painting views from nature. He is noted for his intricate attention to detail, combined with softness of quality. These surely are landmarks of a great master. In 1824 he travelled to Belgium and in 1834 he worked for some time in Germany.

He received numerous decorations and awards in exhibitions in Holland and Belgium and in 1822, he was made a member of the Amsterdam Academy. He was later elected President of the Hague School of Art. Sande Bakhuyzen was looked upon as one of the leading masters of Dutch landscape paintings of the early nineteenth century.

His works can be found in museums in: Amsterdam, The Hague Museum, Museum Fodor; Rotterdam, Berne Museum; Germany, Munich Museum.
